TV Ratings That May Surprise You!

Smart media buyers know that men can be found watching TV during the day, but do you know which daytime show has the highest TV ratings for Men?

You may be surprised that The Jerry Springer Show ended the 2013-14 season with the highest concentrationof  Men 18-49 and 25-54.jerry-springer

With over 1.8 million daily viewers, the show has been a daytime staple since the show first started in 1991. Then it was an attempt to copy fellow talk show Donahue, even Jerry's appearance resembled that of Phil Donahue

Over the past 23 years, the show has evolved into a viewing spectacle that always erupts in an on stage brawl between guests that is eventually broken up by show's security personnel. Perhaps this is why the show begins with a warning to parents that the show may contain content inappropriate for children, 

With the decline of the soaps that dominated daytime from the 1950s, talk shows and court shows have taken over daytime television.  In the talk category, Jerry, Maury and Steve Wilkos (Jerry's one-time security guard) are syndicated by NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution in 65% of the US TV market. They announced Monday that all three have been renewed and will remain on the air through 2018.

Maury, currently in its 17th season, finished the 2013-14 run delivering an average of 3 million daily viewers and ranking as the No. 1 syndicated talk show among women 18-34 (1.2), women 18-49 (1.3), adults 18-34 (0.9) and adults 18-49 (1.0). 

The new comer In its eighth season, Steve Wilkos Show has delivered more growth since fall 2007 than any other syndicated talk show.
  The show follows Jerry's lead in encouraging altercations between guests and offers the audience a look at how the other half supposedly lives.

All three shows exploit the uneducated and greedy, exposing guests to ridicule and humiliation repeatedly. One wonders, "Who would go on these shows willingly?" Which leads to the most often heard comment about them "Are these shows fake?"

Fake or not, they do deliver real ratings during the day that media buyers appreciate. Media buying during the day to reach men is difficult. Men are often elusive during the day and Springer may be one of the few shows to deliver.
