Are You Using Online Advertising to Find New Employees?

Digital advertising is essential in today's marketplace. As more and more companies are embracing the world of online advertising, they are finding new ways to use it.  One of the best uses of digital marketing is to find new employees and the number one site for this is Craigslist.

Craigslist is a well known free classified advertising website that was created by Craig Newmark back in 1995. Since its inception, Craigslist has become the leading classified adinbound marketing agency OH service in the country, replacing newspapers as the leader in classified advertising.

In 2000, the website expanded into 50 countries, with website sections devoted to housing, jobs, personals, items wanted, for sale, services, gigs, resumes, and community ads.

The site receives over 20 billion page views per month, ranking it 10th place among websites in the US. Over 80 million new classified advertisements are placed each month.  Craigslist is the largest free advertising service for job hunters, and for company’s seeking employees. The company has grown substantially in the past 17 years.  

However, with rapid growth came problems. Craigslist began to receive tons of spam ads along with falsified information.

Lifetime Network aired a movie called “The Craigslist Killer” in 2011.  It was based on the story of the killer who met his victims through ads placed on Craigslist.

Richard Beasley was sentenced to death for the murder of three down-on-their-luck men who responded to an ad he placed on the Craigslist website for a nonexistent job.

To help resolve the problem, they started charging for ad space. Recently Craigslist fees went into effect for postings on jobs, apartments for rent in New York City, therapeutic services, as well as cars/trucks by dealer in the United States.

The following cities charge $25 per job per category Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Central NJ, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Inland Empire, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Long Island, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Nashville, New York City, North Jersey, Orange County, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Raleigh, Sacramento, St. Louis , San Antonio, San Diego, Seattle, South Florida, Tampa, Washington DC.

SF Bay area chargers $75 per job per category.  Ads for cars and trucks are charged $5 per ad.

While some companies find this expensive, others have found it is still one of the most effective ways to find new employees.

In an effort to avoid the fees, many companies  post in surrounding areas where there is no fee. Job seekers have found it to be more then helpful with less spam to sort through, and the companies that are seeking immediate help, reach out in a more timely fashion.

Will Craigslist’s growth be slowed now they are charging for ad space? Or will there be a new website that becomes the next Craigslist offering free advertising?
