#USEHASHTAGS: Using hashtags on twitter is crucial. It’s the way to connect your tweets with similar messages from other users. A hashtag symbol (#) is what you use before a relevant keyword or phrase and can occur anywhere in your tweet. If you click on the hashtag it navigates you to a page of tweets that share the same hashtaged keywords or phrases as yours. Hashtags that become especially popular are considered to be “trending” and will appear under the trends section on the homepage.
View Activity Feed: Checking the activity feed on twitter allows you to see how the people you follow are interacting with other twitter users. Some people were controversial about the new feature because they feared it would be too much like Facebook. However, most are finding it’s a great way to find new content like what those you follow favorite and who they are following. You can stream the activity feature by clicking # Discover then Activity.
Subscribe to List: If you are following a large number of people, it can be very helpful to create list to help organize tweets. You can create your own list or even subscribe to list created by others. If you want to see a stream of tweets from only certain users, you can do so by viewing a list timeline. To create a list, go to Me then click List to categorize who you follow.
Maximize Followers: One great way to increase your followers is to search keywords of your interest then favorite certain tweets that you like. That user will be notified of your favorite and might want follow you in return. Another way to maximize your followers is to increase the number you follow.
Increase your following number: Twitter offers a great feature called “who to follow” which suggest people that you don’t currently follow but you may find interesting. The suggestions are based on people you follow and people they follow as well as similar interests. This feature is usually very accurate with its suggestions. Following more people on twitter can lead to gaining more followers.
Use Pockets: When you find something online that you want to view later, twitter allows you to put it in pocket for later use. You can put articles, videos, or pretty much anything into pocket by saving something directly from your browser or apps like twitter. Once it’s in your pocket, it’s on your phone, tablet or computer and you don’t even need to be online to view it.
Change Trends: You can set trends to any location around the world to see what is trending in different places. By changing your trends often it will keep you up to date on what is popular not only where you live, but anywhere around the world.
