Instagram and your Business: A Handsome Couple!

We know that social media networks, such as Twitter and Facebook have developed into platforms that are more than a place for connecting with friends. Businesses have used these sites to launch online campaigns, and reach out to millions, if not billions, with growing success. Yet little has been said about the newest favorite among social media sites.

Instagram is a photo-sharing website that can connect simultaneously with other social media networks. What make’s Instagram such a hit, since its launch in the iTunes App Store in October 2010, is the ability to take pictures captured from a phone and turn them into masterpieces by simply applying a digital filter.

Instagram is not on the radar for most businesses, but for those who have taken the plunge, have given their company a new dimension.  By simply posting a photo Instagram helps put a face on your business. This increases the number of people who will relate to it.  Connecting with Facebook and Twitter instantly provides an easy step toward creating an even bigger online market.

Facebook has been avidly watching Instagrams popularity climb and earlier this year bought the company for 1 billion dollars, a price that makes it more valuable than The New York Times Company. This purchase was concurrent with Instagram hitting 30 million registered users, and being named The App of the Year in 2011 by Apple.

Large companies, such as Starbucks have started using this new style of online marketing. Starbucks shares pictures of new drinks, different stores around the world, and encourages users to hash tag there own photos of their Starbucks drinks.

The hash tag tool is equivalent to the tool that is used on Twitter. Hash tags connect to other pictures on Instagram and can help spread the word even further.

Another handy tool to use when starting to explore the world of Instagram is using the many web sites that allow one to view Instagram from the computer, like Webstagram.com.

Instagram is a great new app that incorporates fun and effectiveness seamlessly. Will your company start using Instagram?
