social media bloggingFor those of you who have been living under a rock, a blog is a personal journal published online.  It consists of entries or posts that are usually displayed in reverse chronological order so that the most recent post appears first.

Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often are themed on a single subject.

Most blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other. It is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites

Because blogging is interactive it is considered a form of social networking.  Bloggers do not only produce content to post on their blogs but also build social relations with their readers and other bloggers.

Many blogs provide commentary on a particular subject; others function as more personal online journal. Others function more as online brand advertising of a particular individual or company.

This online branding facet is invaluable for small and medium sized businesses.  Blogs can be a huge asset when the goal is to increase SEO (search engine optimization).  The way blogs are coded, the frequency that content is posted, as well as the linking built into the blog management system make blogs a search engine magnet.

Blogs can contain company news, press releases, product or services information, as well as events that will help strengthen the communication between your company and its prospects or customers.

A blog will boost awareness, help you connect to your customers and help increase sales.
