At 8:30pm tonight on ABC the 87th Annual Academy Awards hosted by Neil Patrick Harris will be broadcast live from LA.  Will you be watching?oscar_statue2012-02-25_at_4.35.31_pm

Many may be torn between Downton Abbey and the Awards but media buyers and advertisers are counting on big ratings from ABC.  With an ad spot rate of $2.4 million,  Harris needs to deliver more viewers than Ellen did last year for the rates to be justified.

Live sports events and live programming still lead the field in TV ratings delivery, so their ad costs continue to climb.  Will the ever increasing costs of these programs change your media strategy?

Favorites for tonight's awards are:  Eddie Redmayne for his portrayal of the physicist Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything” and  J. K. Simmons for best supporting actor as a music teacher in “Whiplash.”

The best actress category has Julianne Moore is the lead for her role as a professor with early-onset Alzheimer’s in “Still Alice.”  Patricia Arquette's role in  “Boyhood,” has her as the favorite for supporting actress.

Best picture has "Birdman" in the lead.  Who will you be rooting for?
